High performance skills for clinicians — RACS Approved

The
Process Communication Model

A behavioural framework for the gaps between people, built for the highest-stakes environments on earth, and beyond.

The Process Communication Model (PCM) gives already exceptional people — astronauts, aviators, healthcare professionals, athletes — the skills to see what is happening in the gaps between them, and to know what to do about it.

In clinical medicine, the gap is where outcomes are made or lost. It is what happens between clinician and patient in the consultation. Between supervisor and trainee in the learning relationship. Between team members when pressure is high and the stakes are real.

Most communication frameworks are built around understanding the individual, or explaining the gaps between them, while the gaps remain. PCM doesn't fix people. It equips them with the skills to transform the gaps between them into trust, collaboration, and effective healthcare relationships.

PCM: Developed on Earth, proven in space.

PCM was developed in partnership with NASA, specifically to help select and prepare astronaut crews for the demands of working in small teams under extreme conditions, where stress responses and interpersonal dynamics determined the success of the mission.

It is now used by SpaceX astronauts, and applied globally across high-performance environments where what happens between people carries real consequences.

PCM is a behavioural model, not a personality test. What it measures and develops are the observable, learnable patterns of how people communicate, motivate, and respond under stress. These patterns are validated across culture and gender.

Crucially, PCM accounts for change. Unlike most models, which produce a fixed profile, PCM recognises that preferences and responses shift across career stages, under different conditions, and with deliberate development. It is a framework built for people in motion.

PCM's realtime framework for distress: Predict, Prevent, and Respond.

PCM gives clinicians something other frameworks deliberately avoid: a rigorous, evidence-based framework for distress.

When distress enters an interaction, as it does in medicine, it has a signature.

Distress has us attacking, blaming, or retreating into helplessness. In each case, distress works directly against effectiveness, excellence, and satisfaction. Trusted connection collapses. Capability and growth stalls. The therapeutic journey stops: not because of a failure of clinical skill, but because the gaps between us are now using more energy than what we came here to do.

PCM gives clinicians the ability to recognise those patterns, in themselves and others, and act to get back on track. In healthcare, that is not a supplementary skill. It is a clinical variable.

PCM Workshops

Specialised training designed to enable technical excellence through the skills to communicate, motivate, and manage self + others.

PCM Core Workshop (3 Days, in person)

The PCM Core Topics Workshop is an intensively interactive 3 day course that equips participants with fundamental skills for effective communication, motivation, and self-management. You will find attendees from 700's PCM courses throughout healthcare settings, education, technology C-Suites, the centre of AFL matches, the Olympics, and beyond.

Most Colleges will recognise this workshop for Continuing Medical Education as 9:05  hours lecture time and 13:20 hours interactive learning.

PCM Advanced Workshop: Conflict and Motivation

The PCM Advanced Workshop deepens understanding of self and others: how motivation and communication predict distress, and how they can be adapted to resolve it in ways that build trust and performance.

Most medical colleges will recognise this course for Continuing Medical Education as 3:15 hours lecture time and 17:30 hours interactive learning.

We specialise in offering PCM Workshops for intact teams, where the impact of transformed skills can be felt faster, and their impact amplified.

The Process Communication Model Workshops develop the Communication, Collaboration, Leadership, and Professionalism competencies required for CPD across all 16 AMC-accredited colleges in Australia and New Zealand — addressing CAPE's A, P, and E domains while supporting the reflexive practice intrinsic to the C domain. PCM's underlying assessments are validated cross-culturally.

The Compassion Mindset for Healthcare and PCM are available as a combined pathway.

Continuing Professional Development

How PCM supports Clinicians and Patients.

Healthcare is a vocation, and a journey. In order to be safe, effective, and satisfying, this journey relies upon three pillars, represented in 700's Bridge Framework.

700 Healthcare uses PCM as the behavioural framework underpinning the three pillars of the Bridge Framework. Each pillar draws on what PCM makes visible and learnable.

Why? These pillars are interlinked, and mutually reinforcing. Where they are not developed cohesively, there is a risk of inadvertently creating imbalances or blind spots that will undermine clinical excellence.

Trusted Connection requires creating conditions for every person to feel psychologically safe — with positive behaviour, skills to tailor communication to reach the person where they are.

PCM allows this to be systematic rather than intuitive, giving clinicians a reliable framework for establishing connection with patients and colleagues who think and communicate differently from themselves.

New Capability requires understanding how different people learn, to translate knowledge into capability and adaptation.

PCM maps this for each person, giving clinicians the tools to build capability in others.

PCM's unique insights regarding distress are especially helpful for avoiding micromanagement and associated behaviours.

Therapeutic Journeys require behavioural skill and consistency to sustain forward motion and high performance.

PCM provides clinicians and teams with a skillset that can be used in the moment, to manage performance, communication, and stress.

This ensures clinical excellence, team cohesion, and communication, produce the best outcomes and experiences for each person.
